IF YOU’RE AN ENTREPRENEUR, YOU KNOW THE DRILL. EVERYONE IS SCREAMING AT YOU TELLING YOU TO HUSTLE.
As the saying goes, “Hustle? Nah, align.” Why is self-worth directly tied into our productivity especially as entrepreneurs? Are there not other parts of life that need attention.
There is one major reason not to hustle; let me explain.
It is pretty controversial
I’m going to go controversial on ya for a second. I do not like the word ‘hustle’. I do understand, entrepreneurship is tough. One little project turns into a huge workload because of the details and it all take much longer than you anticipated. Everything in life is put on hold. Sometimes, taking care of yourself along the way seems like a bother and it will only hinder progress. I really do understand this!
However, if the ‘hustle’ is what we aim for we end up being busy but not very productive. Hello Wholeness is all about restoring wholeness into your life and ultimately your business.
It is completely glorified
Certain segments of entrepreneurial society has led us to believe that we are somehow unworthy of success unless we hustle.
Remember those posts you see on Instagram with a woman in stilettos walking on the side of the street, scrolling through her phone with big letters over the picture captioning it, HUSTLE. I’ll be honest, seeing these posts is what caught my attention to begin with when it came to being an entrepreneur. However, I soon came to realize that’s far from realistic. So back to this particular woman, that’s great she’s making a living doing that… or is she? Is this a marketing scheme to make us feel as though if we hustle or busy ourselves enough we will make money? Is this a marketing scheme to make us feel ‘less’ if our entrepreneurial journey does not look like that? It works for some, but not me. Don’t glorify the hustle if it’s not equivalent with productivity.
I am not inspired by this type of social media post anymore. I don’t know about you, but I’m inspired by seeing someone rise from a struggle. I am inspired by seeing a real person, telling their story in a raw way. Real women who took pieces of their life and fit them together in such a unique way and who communicate all this through their brand. Women who are so passionate about what they do you cannot ignore them.
If you’re that type of woman, I’ll click the follow button on your profile any day.
The hustle equation
When this happens, we tend to ignore our present moments and prioritize things that will not bring any positivity into our lives or the lives of those around us.
Honestly, most of my life breakthroughs have been realized through not setting boundaries, prioritizing the wrong things and ignoring self-care… and the disaster that eventually caught up with me.
Lack of balance has a way of quickly catching up and hustling ain’t my cup of tea.
On that note, we should seriously make tea more often.
It boils down to…
The number one reason not to hustle is this; if hustling becomes the way in which you measure your self-worth, everything needs to re-evaluated. Just remember, “Hustle? Nah, align.”
