Why Saying ‘No’ is Vital when Building Self Confidence

Burn out is a result of saying 'yes' to everything. There is power in the word 'no'. Saying 'no' to the right things enables you to create the time you need to succeed and is vital when building your self confidence.

Building self confidence has almost become a trend in recent days, but there’s another aspect to building self confidence that no one talks about.

Everyone is tired of hearing “oh, just love yourself!”.  It’s nice to hear it, but the fluffy feelings only lasts about 15 seconds and then the lack of confidence creeps back in again.

Building self confidence takes a whole lot more than saying a few mantras in the morning.

Here’s the honest truth.

01) You will lose friends

As you decide to become serious about your business, set priorities, and build self confidence, you will have to turn some invitations down.  Some friends don’t understand why you can’t go out and stay out late. They may not understand why you’re have to clean up your social media to look like a professional.  Sometimes, they don’t understand why you are taking courses and reading books to self-educate yourself. That’s okay. It’s the ones who stick around, support you, and don’t verbally demolish your vision who are worth your time.  Even if you find these friends when you’re a year into your entrepreneurial journey, that’s okay.

02) You have to get tough

As you build self confidence, it will require discernment as to when and how to say ‘no’. To some, this is very simple because they don’t care about what people think of them. To others, it’s like asking them to stick their head in an alligator’s mouth.  Again, we will utilize your priority list in order to make the decisions as to when and how to say ‘no’.

Ask yourself these questions to determine if you should say ‘no’ to an obligation.

Question 01) Are you doing it just to be approved of or to genuinely help?

If you answered, “To be approved of.” then… you guessed it, this is the complete wrong reason to do anything. Say ‘no’.

If you answered, “To genuinely help.” If you have enough time for it, go for it.

Question 02) Will it benefit your family or your immediate business goal (your current priority list)?

Was the answer, “No.” Give it a miss.

Did you say, “Yes.” Heck yeah, go for it.

Question 03) Do you have time for it?

Don’t have the time? Say ‘no’.

Have the time? If you are doing it to genuinely help and/or it is serving your priority list, go for it.
